Smartphone makers are pricing themselves out of the market

2/24/2019

Makers of high-end smartphones are seeing declining sales as users who find them too expensive increasingly opt to keep their phones longer, according to a global smartphone sales report.
While demand for entry-level and mid-price smartphones has remained strong, global sales of high-end smartphones like the iPhone XS and XS Max have steadily declined over the past year, according to a new report from Gartner.
Less innovation in top-of-the-line smartphones coupled with steep price increases are pushing consumers to wait longer to replace older handsets, according to Gartner.
The research firm found that in 2018, global sales of smartphones grew just 1.2% compared to the year before, reaching 1.6 billion units.

North America, mature Asia/Pacific and Greater China recorded the worst declines of all regions, at 6.8%, 3.4% and 3%, respectively. Those mature markets rely more on flagship smartphone sales than any others and therefore were more dramatically affected by the sales drop.

 Answer: Macintosh

Apple Computer launched its new Macintosh computer with a $1.5 million commercial during the 1984 Super Bowl. The ad played on the Big Brother theme of George Orwell's 1984, depicting Big Brother meeting his demise thanks to the powerful Macintosh personal computer. The first successful mouse-driven computer with a graphic interface, the Macintosh also boasted WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) word processing, a much anticipated innovation. Containing many of the most popular features of Apple's previous (and very expensive) Lisa computer, the Macintosh sold for a much more affordable $2,500.

What are the first six (6) letters that appear on the traditional computer keyboard?
Answer: QWERTY

The QWERTY format was developed by Christopher Sholes in 1867. Sholes was a newspaper editor and printer living in Milwaukee. He worked on a patent for an early writing machine and found that the QWERTY pattern of letters made it much easier to type quickly and with fewer errors.

What was the very first personal computer?

Answer : The Kenbak-1

Introduced in 1971, the Kenbak-1 is generally considered to be the world's first personal computer. Designed by John V. Blankenbaker, the Kenbak-1 included 256 bytes of memory, ran at an operating speed of about 1MHz, and sold for $750. Unlike many earlier machines it was a true stored-program (Von Neumann) computer. Unfortunately for Blankenbaker, the world wasn't quite ready for the personal computer. After selling only 40 machines, the Kenbak Corp. was forced to go out of business in 1973.

Best Laptop: Dell XPS 13 (2016)

Last year, we gave our Best of Year laptop award to the Dell XPS 13. While the competition in 2016 was fierce, it remained our favorite. No matter if you grab the 6th-gen or brand new 7th-gen Intel version, the XPS 13 is awesome. While we can point to any one of its unique features—and we’d be remiss in not mentioning its practically bezel-free edge-to-edge display—its design and array of options make this Dell stellar. Go to Reviewed.com to read their full review and to shop for the best price.
